In 1986, the city of Aachen awarded the International Charlemagne Prize to the Luxembourgish people. This distinction, received by Grand Duke Jean, honours Luxembourg’s exemplary and persistent efforts in favour of the unification of the peoples of Europe. Through its continuous commitment to cooperation, solidarity, and European integration, Luxembourg has significantly contributed to promoting peace and unity on the continent. This commemorative €2 coin celebrates the 40^th anniversary of the awarding of the International Charlemagne Prize to the Luxembourgish people. It is available with different mint marks: in a BU coin card, in a Proof box, as well as individually in a capsule.
